European allies not united on armed deployment in Ukraine as Macron announces 'reassurance force'
Emmanuel Macron has announced a plan for a "reassurance force" with several countries in Ukraine - but not all European allies have backed the idea
When questioned about the "reassurance force", Sir Keir said it was "designed to deter" Mr Putin and defend whatever peace deal is agreed.
From a UK point of view, it's a feeble attempt at distraction from the mess at home and the hopelessly unimpressive crew presumably voted in to provide rational political oversight. Even Labour voters must harbouring a few doubts about that though.

As someone who lives within sight and sound of our aircraft carriers, I don't find Starmer talking about military action against Russia very reassuring.
Sam - even in Derbyshire I don't find it very reassuring. The man's a dolt.
The phrase that comes to mind is "you and whose army?"
djc - yes it does, maybe Starmer has an army of human rights lawyers in mind.
Given Putin's nuclear rhetoric and the points others make about having the capability to do anything serious with conventional forces, this looks uncomfortably like cold war nuclear brinkmanship.
Barbarus - to my mind it's difficult to go into any depth because of the fog of war. It's possible to find people who seem to be well-informed promoting incompatible standpoints and the European position doesn't seem to clarify anything.
