Macron is right

Putin and Trump cannot decide Europe's fate, French president declares

The future of Europe does not have to be decided by Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin, Emmanuel Macron has said - as he suggested France could use its nuclear deterrent to protect the continent.

The French president also raised the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine to enforce a peace deal in response to Trump's upending of the transatlantic alliance.

In an important sense, Macron is of course right, incompetence decides the big issues in Europe. The trick European leaders have not yet mastered is how to leave incompetence out of their consultations.

M. Micron for some reason reminds me of an old school joke.

"Describe a matelot's trousers." "Toulouse and Toulon."

The biggest difficulty in solving 'the problem of Europe' is that the very people who caused the problem expect to be included in reaching the solution.

I notice that Trump is quite willing to exclude those he thinks would block progress. I guess striking a deal is easier between two people than with a crowd of extras who are not paying attention.

Perhaps if they just did the whole thing with AI? Along the lines of "What might the strategy be for a clapped out old imperial power with too many immigrants, not enough nukes, and a preposterous little leader who might be gay?".

In fact, that would sort both France and England.

dearieme - yes, always Toulon for Macron.

DJ - yes it's hugely ironic that as soon as Starmer starts berating 'blockers' he becomes one.

Sam - sarcasm aside, that's not a bad idea, worth a blog post to try and highlight how poor humans are at the political game.
