Eminent Expert hits back

Theresa May hits back at Kemi Badenoch over Tory leader’s claim net zero by 2050 is ‘impossible’

Retorting that “net zero by 2050 is challenging but achievable”, Baroness May wrote on social media: “It is supported by the scientific community and backed by the independent Climate Change Committee as being not just necessary but feasible and cost-effective.

“We are already seeing the impact of climate change. From extreme weather events to supply chain disruption and increased climate-induced migration.

By gum, some loons never leave off being a loon. Baroness May of Maidenhead now apparently, which nobody could possibly find encouraging, even on a sunny day with birds twittering in the hedgerows and daffodils popping up all over the place.

Maybe Baroness May should have opted for a more suitable career such as shroud recycling, she's good at casting a damp, grey shroud over everything.

I like "shroud recycling". My gloomiest job was in a little paper-and-plastics company in New Jersey. We made natty little plastic bags for shipping carbines to Vietnam. We made a bigger size for bringing bodies back.

Kemi Badenough should have gone further: rather than just say Net Zero by 2050 (or any other date come to that) is impossible, she should have said that it's not only impossible, but also pointless.
But I suppose her party would then be up in arms - which is good enough reason not to support them.

Nice words from Kemi Badenoch... but until she can carry the Party with her this is not the policy pivot that will rescue the Conservatives.

dearieme - that does sound gloomy. I had a summer job at a plastic bag factory but I can't remember what they were for.

Peter - yes, she shouldn't be dishonest about it and pretend it is some desirable but difficult objective. As you say, it's impossible and pointless.

DJ - she is probably stuck with a party which isn't worth saving because there are too many who can't come to terms with the mess they made of being in power.

I have just been cheered by the news that permission has been refused to build a very large wind farm in the South Island of New Zealand, just down the road from me. Net Zero, the impossible dream of raving green loonies and the gullible politicians who cannot resist jumping on a passing bandwagon .

John - that sounds like a cause for celebration. Apart from being a loony idea, the low frequency sound they emit seems to be a genuine problem for people within range.
