Electric Stupidity

Just Stop Oil activists pour orange liquid over robot at Elon Musk's Tesla store in London

Just Stop Oil activists urging “shut down the fascists” have poured orange liquid over a robot at Elon Musk’s Telsa store in London.

Two Just Stop Oil protesters poured orange liquid latex over an Optimus robot at the Westfield Tesla store on Wednesday, demanding the UK government phase out fossil fuel burning by 2030, the protest group said.

However amusing this silly protest against an electric car manufacturer might be, it is easy to agree with Dietrich Bonhoeffer about the dangers of unrestrained stupidity.

Eccentric as they seem now, there is something sinister about people so willing to believe and act on totalitarian political nonsense. Their somewhat pitiful stupidity is also a pointer to the vastly more sinister stupidity of people behind them.

Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease. Against stupidity we are defenseless.

A few years ago there was a video of some idiots who had glued themselves to a train on the London underground. One of the delayed passengers helpfully (and very reasonably, considering the circumstances!) pointed out the the train ran on electricity, and not oil. Give it five years, and tube trains and Teslas will be the only way to get around London.

On sunny, windy days, of course.

From what we hear of where American "international development" money was being (mis)directed, there is quite a lot of evil manipulating the stupidity. Not that JSO is necessarily backed by USAID money, but there are plenty of other nations - including ours - that have not audited this sort of spending.

Sam - through mistakes like this, stunts often give away the old fashioned anti-capitalist ideology behind their claims. London is a hive of capitalists using the underground every day, Musk an arch-capitalist, fossil fuel nonsense is for the useful idiots.

Barbarus - and it seems likely that nobody dare audit the spending because the rot is easily deep enough to bring down governments, hordes of powerful people and numerous organisations supported by covert patronage.

When will these morons realise that oil is not a fossil fuel, but a mineral. Rather than composed of decaying bodies of baby dinosaurs, it is a product of heat and pressure deep within the earth. Similarly gas fields, once described as "the contained farts of mother earth", and YT and tiktok videos by cretins have shown just how flammable human farts are.

Penseivat - yes, the big problem for fossil origins came when Saturn's moon Titan was found to have vast quantities of simple hydrocarbons such as methane. Not an issue I've looked at, but Titan seems to be a major headache when it comes to oil origins.
