Medical breakthroughs mean more of us will live to 150, new research suggests
We could soon live to the age of 150, medics claim.
They say more of us will reach the massive milestone thanks to modern tech, new medicines and healthy living. Longevity medicine expert Dr Debonneuil said: "If the current trend continues, we could see individuals living to 140 or 150 in good health.
It's clickbait of course, these stories pop up every now and then, but the prospect of greatly extended longevity is horribly interesting because of all the possible downsides.
Sir Keir Starmer celebrated his 110th birthday by reiterating his government's commitment to growth, while Chancellor Rachel Reeves reminded us that she has proved people wrong in the past...

More of us will live to be 150?
What's the current rate?
I dare say that many people who had three or more Covid jabs are going to die prematurely in the next decade. Has government yet risen to the challenge of explaining away death statistics since Jan 2021?
Sam - it's similar to the UK economic growth rate and just as likely to take off.
dearieme - the ONS used to have a web page showing an interesting death stats graph but it disappeared. I haven't checked to see if there is another version somewhere else, but hiding the stats may be the preferred option.
The state retirement age being raised to 149 will be just one consequence.
Penseivat
Penseivat - they may just get rid of it, claiming that people have long enough to save for it.
I've already suffered 71 years of human madness, don't tell me I have to go through another 71?!?
Tammly - grim thought isn't it?
