It's very encouraging that this work is being done, of course, but there is a dark side to it. Making government databases talk to each other, and having information systems that link up, has massive potential for abuse. Perhaps less so in America, where the government tends to do less, but I wouldn't want to give Starmer and co. the ability to know any more about us.

Recently, for example, I saw someone complaining that the government wanted to gain access to domestic energy smart meters. They will be able to track people's movements and bust alibis etc. by showing courts that people were in residence on specific days. Not good.

Sam - yes, if people keep voting as they do now, then there is no protection against creeping totalitarian oversight.
