Are you a Flat Earther? You're probably INSECURE, scientists say

Ever since the time of the ancient Greeks over 2,000 years ago, human beings have known the Earth is a globe.

Despite this, some people are still convinced that we live on a giant floating disc in space, known as 'Flat Earth'.

Now, scientists have discovered why believers are still so sure of this fantastical theory.

According to researchers from the University of Kent, people who believe in conspiracies like the Flat Earth theory are more likely to be insecure.

Surely Flat Earthers have a stronger sense of personal security because they can't be worried about falling off.

However, genuinely insecure people are those such as Ed Miliband who appears to feel very insecure about another fantastical theory currently popular among insecure folk - weather doom.

Ed seems to feel insecure about everything supposedly related to weather doom, from gas central heating boilers to cars, from bovine flatulence to ordinary people flying off abroad for a holiday.

The BBC has been promoting weather doom for decades, to such an extreme extent that its staff must be as insecure as Ed Miliband. Yet BBC folk don't expect to fall over the edge of the Earth when they whizz off all over the world to report on sporting events, climate jamborees and so on... at least I don't think so.

While I would wish beeboids no physical harm, it might be an idea for them just to pretend to fall off the edge, and stay out of sight, then we could all get some sleep!

A few times I failed to find the edge so I could fall off ... we flew and flew but were still stuck near the ground.

Of course there is a tendency for BBC people to feel insecure... although they might believe that the world is spherical anything outside the M25 is risky.

Scrobs - or they could send a team of reporters and celebrities to make a programme about what it's like over the edge.

James - it seems to be more elusive than we might expect, especially as the sea below ought to be disappearing at some point as it pours over the edge.

DJ - yes, the M25 is the edge of their world and north is where Coronation Street starts and just goes on an on to a strange land of mists and murk, pies, darts matches and whippets.

The Flat Earth drivel was resurrected in the 19th century by the American writer Washington Irving. It was anti-Roman Catholic propaganda, claiming that the RC church had opposed the round earth theory.

I wonder who the BBC and Guardian are trying to convince. They have been predicting "DOOM" and 'THE END OF THE WORLD" for so long now that most normal people have tuned out and get on with their lives . The fringe elements of rebellious youth and the insecure who cannot cope with normal life think they can change peoples minds by throwing paint around or blocking roads, but cannot see that they only annoy people. This sort of thing seems to have become worse because social media has made it easier to get a wider audience for their tantrums. Before ,if a local newspaper editor had been presented with a story about such goings on, after the first one, the story would be spiked and the Parish Council minutes published instead.

I've noticed that the derision directed towards 'flat earthers' for holding on to a discredited theory, doesn't get directed towards some similar others who hold equally discreditable theories, like, for example Islam.

dearieme - interesting, I've read some of his stuff, but could never get on with Washington Irving.

John - yes, doom believers are the insecure ones if anyone is, those paint throwers and road blockers plus those who screamed in anguish when Trump was elected or when someone important used the wrong pronoun. It's a mad, insecure world.

Tammly - strange that, isn't it?
