Mercedes upgrades its electric EQS to give the EV a huge 511 mile-range
Buyers of the updated EQS will get an extra 51 miles of range - now a whopping 511 miles in total - thanks to a new bigger battery.
The price is yet to be revealed but starting price will be at least what the current model costs, which is an eye-watering £112,000.
A little less than the range of our diesel with a full tank which we can fill in minutes. If anything, stories such as this make an EV even less appealing by associating an extremely high price with a respectable range.
It's also a hint to we plebs that a car with a useful range may be out of our reach. Assuming this "whopping" range is genuinely achievable by customers of course.

"genuinely achievable" in politicians' dreams!
Just as long as you don't want heating, cooling, demisting, windows up and down, stereo, moving seats, operating door locks, lights etc etc . . .

Isn't the rule that you subtract one third? Unless it's winter where halving might work better.
We're hanging on to our 2005 vehicle as long as poss.
"Mercedes upgrades its electric EQS..."
EQS = "Extinguishes Quite Slowly", "Expensive Queer Set-up" or "Exceptional Quality Scam".
Dare one ask how much the battery weighs?
The battery weighs only a kilogram... but the long wire back to the house weighs 1,000 kilograms.
:)
Jannie - they could go back to acetylene lamps for the lights, hand signals instead of indicators and maybe a small interior wood burner for the heating.
dearieme - I subtract about a third then a half for winter. It may be pessimistic, but at the moment pessimism seems to be the best approach.
Sam - ha ha, I like "Extinguishes Quite Slowly" best, let's hope it catches on.
Dave - I'm not sure, but the car itself can weigh nearly 3 tonnes depending on the model.
DJ - but the cable can have the Wind-Back-Home accessory in case of breakdown.
My house cost less than that
Bucko - round here it's still possible to buy houses for less than that. Not much less though.
