Warmer weather is finally on its way, with parts of Britain set to bask in 20C heat
It has been a "month of two halves", the Met Office says - initially quite warm and then cool. But it's about to warm up again.
Highs of 20C (68F) are expected in parts of the UK this week, the Met Office has said, following a spell of cold, wet and windy weather.
When did 20C become heat?
It's one of the effects of climate change on editorial policy.

In the heatwave of 1976 temperatures rose to 32 degrees C, aka 89.6 F. If this is 'global boiling' I suppose that was global exploding.
Still, Coningsby saw 40.3 C in 2022. Ryanair and Easyjet are rumoured to be planning regular flights there.
But 20 Centigrade is really 293.15! Aieee! We are all going to die.
Of course 293.15 Kelvin is no different than 20 Centigrade but it sounds more doom-worthy. Although arguing that global warming will add 1.5 degrees to 293.15 sounds less worrying.
It's not the joke itself, it's how you tell them.

In the UK, in April? Did I read that right? I know you are sceptical about this climate change stuff, AKH, but something very significant and unprecedented is clearly happening here.

(Personally I enjoyed Edinburgh's summers of mild temperatures and long daylight. I really dislike the hot, muggy weather in Cambridgeshire's summer.)

Sackers - I'm surprised global exploding isn't already part of climate language.
DJ - if you create a graph of global temperatures in kelvin, it's just a slightly wiggly line. It brings home how stable it is and how we are making much of tiny fluctuations.
Sam - I agree, today it's too sunny to be anything other than our fault, although tomorrow is forecast to be cloudy so the doom may ease off for a while.
dearieme - we don't usually get hot muggy summer weather here in our bit of Derbyshire. Under the dappled shade of a tree it's very pleasant.
