Let's go to Mam Tor

Easter weekend traffic to Mam Tor in Derbyshire. Notoriously busy anyway, but we never go there to find out for ourselves.

Jetpack might be the solution?

James - good idea, and worth it for the pleasure of skimming above the queues.

Why do people join queues like that? We've spent our lives avoiding queues, commuting, and so on as much as possible.

dearieme - I don't know, we regularly travel early to avoid bank holiday queues like that in Derbyshire. It isn't even necessary to be particularly early. Over Easter we saw a queue several miles long going into Matlock as we were leaving.

Is that three lanes of cars travelling in the same direction, or one row travelling through two rows of parked cars? Looks pants, whatever it is.
For me, bank holidays are times to pull the car to bits and replace parts of it, not to drive it into the country to look at cow pats

I assumed this was an April Fool, but apparently it's not.

Good grief.

My brother has a holiday house in the next valley over, I hope he wasn't caught up in this.

I don’t subscribe to the platform but, out of idle curiosity, I googled ‘Mam Tor’ and ‘Instagram’; 149K posts, a small sample of which showed a startling number of variations on “I saw the pictures of traffic jams there so I went to see what all the fuss was about”.

Bucko - it's hard to tell, but it looks like at least one row of parked cars on a narrow country road.

Peter - he'd be fine if he stayed away from certain areas like Mam Tor. There are quieter spots and roads which don't become jammed.

Macheath - it's not easy to explain because these things are easily avoided. Maybe some people find it mildly exhilarating to be part of the crush - it must be worthwhile because it's such an effort to get there. The Glastonbury effect on a smaller scale perhaps.
