Burnham takes aim at 'cowboy builders' with new crackdown
- Andy Burnham has unveiled new plans to tackle rogue tradespeople known as “cowboy builders” to protect consumers from unfair practices by private bailiffs.
- A government-backed register launching in September will help householders find trusted builders, while a milestone-linked payment system next week will prevent upfront costs.
- The Prime Minister stated that the measures aim to protect families from stress and financial losses while stopping dishonest builders from damaging the reputation of reliable traders.

Looks like the price of hiring a tradesman is going to increase then.
While in the real world, the private sector has already solved this problem with the likes of Trust A Trader and Check A Trade.com
I'm sorry to say that current politics is all about managing around the edges. Partly because it provides a quick media hit, and partly because politician's do not have a long term view.
And so, from an article in the Daily Sceptic about the Quinquagenary, “The majority view was liberal in the most empty sense”. Empty vessels hold nothing but make the loudest noise.
Burnham cracks down on ... It must be tiring, trying to identify piffling policies that you can claim to pursue in the near (but ever receding) future.

As ever, the solution to any problem is more bureaucracy.
Even when - as Bucko says above - the problem already has a working solution.
Bucko - also word of mouth for local tradesmen, a number have told me that this is mainly how they get the work - do a good job, get more work.

Peter - and more bureaucracy is always the easy answer because we have so much of it already, a bit more can be waved through.
Can he now do something about dodgy politicians, who often leave a job unfinished while charging the taxpayer a shed load of money? Asking for most of the population.
