Bats

In nearly 50 years of driving I've hit rabbits, squirrels, rats and mice. I once blatted an owl which was sat in the middle of the carriageway looking at me - quite surreal and sad. I've had terrifying near-misses with deer, which seem intent on running across the road regardless of cars. But I've never hit a bat. You'd see them in the headlights. They'd get caught in the radiator grille and under the wipers. Nor have I heard of anyone hitting them.

I don't think they are that stupid. Which is why they are not allowed to stand for office in local elections.

Sam - I've had encounters with the usual small creatures but nothing of any size. Not a single bat though. Natural avoiders I reckon, and as you say, not stupid enough to be allowed to stand for office in local elections.

Decades ago I went to a guided batwalk in Epsom common, not a single bat was seen because they were all in the Rising Sun beer garden making dives at the customers.

Anon - I seem to recall some bat near misses while sitting outside in the evening. We don't often see them here but used to see them regularly flying around the garden of our previous house.

Couldn't they make them into bridges for deer? Modification would only take another 1.5 million or so.

Tammly - good idea, they could incorporate ramps for less mobile deer.
