Promises, promises

Following on from the previous post, here we have another chapter in the latest book in the vast library of political promises. What kind of person makes them? What kind of person insists on them, defends them, then expects to skip off to pastures new when they fail?

Au bleedin' contraire. There will be no stopping "Sir" Tier Karma. He's going to have a standing army, you know.

dearieme - which was bound to send a frisson of unease through those public servants who spend their working lives sitting down.

I think everything starts from the main objective: get growth. The easiest economic growth at the moment is to import immigrants. Never mind the difference between GDP and per capita GDP, getting more people into the country increases the economic activity and makes Kia look better.

"But Kia, some of them are murderers and rapists! And where are they all going to live?"

"Keep calm! Just label those who object as "far right", and pretend we can get houses from the heat-pump fairy!"

Sam - yes GDP numbers seem to be keeping the door open and will continue to do so until problems become too acute and embarrassing to hide. We could even see sizeable shanty towns before that happens. The heat-pump fairy is going to be very busy.

I havn't seen the incompetent planning a practical program, since I supervised college students in Design & Technology.

Tammly - when it comes to incompetent planning, this is a good one. It could even encourage Angela Rayner to make an issue of it.
