Local elections 2023: We need to reflect and do more, says Lucy Frazer after Tory losses
The government needs to reflect and do more, Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has said following bruising losses for her party in local elections in England.
Some Conservatives have blamed Rishi Sunak after the party lost more than 1,000 councillors in Thursday's vote.
But, speaking to the BBC, Ms Frazer said that, despite a difficult start to the Tories' campaign, voters "were beginning to give Rishi Sunak credit".
Maybe the Conservatives need to reflect on what it is to be conservative. Seems unlikely though. To do that they would have to find a few conservatives - and know where to look of course.

Coronation retrospect.
(i) The weather here was better than expected so Herself spent much time outdoors rather than in front of the telly. So my second hand report is necessarily rather thin.
(ii) She said the best bit was when a commentator remarked that Charles was the only Royal sporting paratroop "wings". Apparently when he was asked to be Honorary Colonel of the Paras he said he'd do it only if he could go through the training for jumping, and so he did. Good for him, though perhaps bloody silly given that he has a bad back. Maybe it happened before his back began to plague him.
(iii) That's all. Except to say that the whole business caused obvious delight to masses of people, and all for a trifling cost her head. The final argument for royal tomfoolery is that its supporters are obviously made of better stuff than Republicans who are clearly descended from killjoys, witch finders, Xmas banners, and the like. The Royalists don't insist I join in their fun; the Republicans would insist I gave up any fun they disapproved of. Sod 'em.
You could argue for the inverse...

...and stop HS2 at a suitable point. Repeal 'hate' laws. Reverse the Police Service naming back to the Police Force. End the BBC license. Simplify planning laws. Simplify tax laws. Dump the lunacy of Net Zero. Start the much delayed bonfire of the QUANGOs, ending the 5-a-day programme. Eliminate trendy jobs (Equity Director etc) in public services like the NHS.
Who knows, retreating from micro-managing peoples' lives might catch on? I would definitely be in direct refutation of Labour's even more nanny state.
Last week my MP turned up on my doorstep, with the local council candidate in tow. I had a go at her about immigration, the BBC, universities, and woke culture. She said how Rishi was actually sorting it as we spoke - he knows the issues, and had legislation ready to deal with all of them. It's what Conservatives stand for.
I suppose we have to give them the benefit of the doubt here. They have only just got into power (2010) and have got a wafer thin majority (64). Patience is all.

In one.
dearieme - that's a good point, supporters of the Royals are made of better stuff than the detractors, especially the noisy ones. I tend to stop short at the prospect of President Blair as a replacement, but it's more than that.
DJ - yes, that would go a long way and ought to be enormously popular, but too many people are so easily persuaded to vote against their own interests. It is even possible to persuade people that popularity is bad politics.
Sam - it's dreadful isn't it? They lie to us but seem to view the lies as a kind of professional technique, a necessary aspect of the job like any other promotional activity.
James - and most would have to ask someone.
