Even the fire looks tired

It’s been foul weather here in Derbyshire today, grey, cold and wet. So foul that we haven’t been out all day, although that isn’t quite true. As a last resort this morning we set off in the car to a nearby shopping centre but as soon as we’d set off it began to rain so hard that we turned back.

This afternoon it was still cold, still raining, so we thought a last, last resort might be to tog up in waterproofs and walk to Sainsbury’s. No - after looking out of the front door we gave up on that idea too.

It’s evening now, fireworks fizzing and banging outside so maybe the rain has finally ceased. Discounting illness, it’s a long time since we’ve stayed in all day. It's just not something we do. So much so that we’re not used to it and now we’re more tired than if we’d done a ten mile walk.

Even the fire looks tired.

Same here. Sheets of driving rain interspersed by grey skies. At least near the sea you can see it coming. But I've been soaked twice while walking the dogs; the rain went right through my new Rab jacket (they are lowering the quality!) and my "waterproof" trousers. The common is waterlogged and some roads are inches deep.

Miserable days, and it's been going on for some time now.

"No sun — no moon!
No morn — no noon —
No dawn — no dusk — no proper time of day.

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member —
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! —
November!"

Sam - November can have some reasonable walking days but today certainly wasn't one of them. Tomorrow looks better.

We just had lots of rain all day!

The dog is usually a good guide as to whether we'll be walking or not, but we both got it wrong after lunch, and we got soaked...

Today is hopefully going to better, but this seasonal weather has to be down to globule boiling, man-made fibres, copper bracelets and a really stupid government!

Scrobs - it didn't stop until after dark here, but it's a fine morning now, so out we go.
