Robots all at sea

Deep-diving robots checking for climate collapse in our oceans

Scientists in Scotland are using robotic subsea gliders to check ocean currents for signs of climate collapse.

They are monitoring the "conveyor belt" which carries warm and cool water between the Caribbean and the Arctic.

Scientists fear a weakening of the system would have a devastating effect across large parts of the planet.

Strewth, I'm sure the BBC is getting worse. Not possible I hear from the folks at the the back. I don't know about that, it certainly seems to be possible.

It isn't clear what climate collapse could possibly be, but it can't be a situation where the climate actually collapses by fainting and falling to the ground. Neither can it mean that the climate simply disappears like a burst bubble and we are left with no climate at all. No - can't be that.

I suppose climate collapse is effectively funding collapse, a scary situation where scientists have to seek alternative employment.

They could try filling in potholes.

Scotland is in the fortunate position of having falling sea levels.
Real measurable drops. Now. Despite Watt and his Industrial Revolution coal burning engines of Hell.
OK, it is really the land that is rising. All because of climate change.
All that miles thick Ice Age ice heaped up on Scotland pushed it down into the magma, or whatever Scotland floats on.
Coincidentally, there was a thriving society out in Doggerland. But the idiots there did not heed their wise men but kept on driving their SUVs, burning coal and oil. So of course Doggerland was flooded and now haddock swim over this land of Climate deniers.
Anyway, thanks to those Dogged deniers the billions of tons, or tonnes, of ice on Scotland melted, or slid off elsewhere and Scotland popped up like a slow motion cork released from being held under water.
And, lo, it came to pass that Wee Nippie, the blessed Small James Kranky, decreed that the land would be covered in sacred spinning Mercedes logos and this would maintain Scotland suspended above the waves.
Ferries? We don't need no steenking ferries. We gonna dry those seabeds.
Think MacMoses.
Enough whimsy.

Doonhamer - we can never have enough whimsy, it's a welcome antidote to the lunacy. Those Doggerland Deniers have much to answer for.

Down my neck of the woods it's falling, hence frequent "THE SEA LEVEL IS RISING" scaremongering!

Dave - and that's baffling, because the scaremongers must know that, or they could easily look it up.
