CRUK Make some interesting points in that article, but I still can't bring myself to trust them. They're far too political and far too focused on making people quit smoking.
Both headlines are examples of breathless optimism for the future.
And yet even green fuels will inject water vapour into the upper atmosphere so the optimism should be tempered with some caution - unless you are willing to write off anthropogenic climate change entirely (probably a step too far).
And of those 20,000 people a year who won't die from cancer they will all die at some time from something else (heart attacks or strokes most probable).
So unqualified enthusiasm is not news - it is propaganda. No wonder modern generations find Real Life(tm) so upsetting.
Sam - quite a few seem to do that. The "brain drain" used to be a media issue and surely it must be going on now, perhaps to a greater extent than we realise.
Bucko - years ago we used to support CRUK by going out with collecting tins but wouldn't do it now, it's too much like a business. I wouldn't be on that plane either. One using synthetic fuel perhaps, but not used cooking oil, it might smell like a chip shop on fire.
DJ - those vapour trails are interesting because on a clear day they occasionally seem to spread enough to turn a clear sky slightly milky. I believe some work has been done which suggests they can make a significant difference to sunlight on the surface.

Maybe we can fly patients to somewhere where the medical diagnosis and care is better.
Only with special bio-fuel, of course - we wouldn't want anyone harmed in the process.
