Click and Queue

After our Bakewell trip yesterday, Mrs H and I are convinced that Christmas mania is even more frenetic than previous years. This morning the Argos click and collect queue in Sainsbury’s was so long that a chap was phoning someone about it as we strolled past. Indeed it was so long that another chap felt impelled to write a blog post about it.

Mrs H says it’s a result of the Black Friday deals. It certainly seemed to involve lots of cardboard boxes, so recycling bins will be more full than usual. Do we count all that extra recycling as a boost to sustainability?

Occasionally we get Tesco home deliveries - if I remember, and when we need lots of heavy things like massive bags of dog biscuits and cartons of oat milk, etc.

They have sent me emails saying that there is a special date sometime in November which is when you can book your Christmas delivery. Lines open at some ridiculously early hour of the morning, with the implication that if you miss this, then all the delivery slots will be taken and your Christmas will be trashed.

Quite clever marketing, really.

Sam - it is clever marketing, but I think you'll find the delivery slots nearest to Christmas are taken. We used it and it's a pain, but we prefer it to going there.

This morning we strolled out to Sainsbury's for some perishables and the car park was almost full about five minutes after the store opened. People must sit there in their cars waiting for it to open.
