Range

Drove back from our Norfolk holiday yesterday, there and back on a tank of diesel. We’ve done 340 miles since filling up before the holiday and still have enough range to nip down to the south coast if we wish.

Tootled off to a local shopping centre this morning and as usual there was a row of electric cars being recharged. It’s our Net Zero future apparently.

Oh well - I’ll probably top up the diesel later this week, maybe drop into the Tesco filling station after a school run. It’s not urgent.

Keep filling up with the dreaded diesel, and the south coast will be nipping up to you...

Sam - a degree or two warmer sounds good, I'll nip out and start the car.

You know quite a bit about cars; what is the diesel equivalent to the top grade petrol, which I was advised to use as I only do short journeys, and does that still ring true?

Apparently, it takes several minutes for any engine to begin to work properly, so a decent octane is the alternative on offer!

Mind you, I remember days when one had to wait several seconds before starting a diesel car, usually when it was freezing cold...

Scrobs - I don't really know much about cars, but maybe top grade diesel could make a difference if you only do short journeys. I prefer to make sure I give the car a run at a reasonable speed every now and then, even if it's only 10 miles.

Our journeys are overwhelming short so the diesel we favour is Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate.
We don't care about the extra cost per litre because we drive so few miles per year.

Be careful with the Shell because they sell a petrol with a similar name.

dearieme - the fuel stations we usually use only sell one type of diesel, otherwise I'd probably buy something better because most of our journeys are short.
