I've argued before that we don't have newspapers any more, we have opinion-papers - they are all 'editorial' with only dubious relation to reality. From Dominic Frisby's YouTube we should perhaps qualify that further... we now have careerist opinion-papers. From 'all the news that's fit to print' to 'all the news that fits' perhaps?
DJ - yes, if they publish anything it must have a purpose and informing people accurately is never an adequate purpose. Some beneficial allegiance must be reinforced, veracity on its own doesn't make it as a beneficial allegiance.
