Both appear to be consistently avoiding huge issues that affect ordinary people, and both appear to be taking poorly understood orders from some higher authority. The inconsistency that really strikes me is between what they say they want, and what they appear to want. Today, that little Asian chap said he was really enjoying the campaign.
I've toyed with the idea of how the public might toy with Sunak and Starmer - in a non violent criticism.
So for Sunak everybody criticising him should erect an umbrella - signifying how 'wet' his politics are for a Conservative, with a nod to the meme of him announcing the next General Election in the pouring rain.
For Starmer there's a Muslim behaviour in the Middle East of waving the soles of your shoes towards someone to show your disgust... so I suggest waving a flip-flop at Starmer. As a nod towards his inability to hold a view for more than a morning.
Subtle it's not, but it would be hard for the politicians to explain away as 'enthusiasm'.
Sam - yes, they avoid the major issues in a manner which tells us they are entirely off the table. They do appear to defer to a higher authority which may not be as clearly defined as WEF. More to do with their personal ambitions intermingled with political narratives which will suit those ambitions when they progress beyond the current political game.
DJ - that's an idea. The umbrellas could be cocktail stick umbrellas anyone could slip into a pocket then hold up at the right moment. A flip-flop could be a child's size, also easy to slip into a pocket.
Doonhamer - yes it's hard to resist, I almost used it as the title.
