Dork of the Year candidates

As you may know, previous winners of the Dork of the Year (DotY) award have been

2020 Prince Harry
2019 Jo Swinson
2018 The British Electorate
2017 Michael Heseltine
2016 Mark Carney
2015 Ed Miliband
2015 Naomi Klein

All worthy winners, but what about 2021? Unfortunately the coronavirus debacle has caused a good deal of disruption in the Dork of the Year committee this year. As usual there are numerous Qualifying Dorks even though Joe Biden currently appears to have an unassailable lead.

However, we do have a preliminary list of Qualifying Dorks which may be expanded as suggestions arise.

Joe Biden
Matt Hancock
SAGE
Angela Rayner
Prince Charles
Prince William
Alok Sharma
The BBC
The Guardian
Jacinda Ardern

All of the above.

Perhaps the Democrats could win a 'Supporting Dork' prize? And I am always disappointed not to see a certain football commentator nominated for his, in my opinion, pontification on matters outside sport. Actually there are a few other luvvies too.

I suggest you pick an All Dork XV with Jacinda Ardern at lock and Kamala Harris at hooker.

No Harry and Sparkle? Althought I must agree that it's a very crowded field with much competition.

Kamala Harris.

Boris started slowly, but is now making a final dash for victory before the end of the month.

Don't forget climate expert Greta Thunberg. Admittedly, she's had no new ideas this year, but has kept herself in the public eye with her singing and dancing routines.

Also, any billionaire who flew by private jet to COP 26, especially if they have an interest in vanity space-travel.

The field grows every year, Biden has to favorite but he leads a tight pack, where is Neil Ferguson who still has not got a single prediction right, he even put out a podcast in which he put himself in the 'I do not understand why everyone is so nasty to me' category and managed the whole 22 minutes without ever mentioning his modelling failures or explaining how his daytime excursions were within the rules, amazing brass neck.

There are so many runners in this race. Many dark horses, Jacinta is definitely a horse of darkness. Another nag lurking at the back of the field is that Australian Northern Territory chap, one more Nuremberg rallying cry could catapult him into the lead.

You cleverly avoided an overcrowded cavalry charge by including many runners under the umbrella of the BBC.

DJ - yes we need more luvvies. A huge field though.

dearieme - ha ha very good and it does feel like a team game.

Woodsy - yes Harry and Sparkle should be in there. I've added them as a double act.

James - I'll add her.

Sam - yes Boris and Greta should be in there.

Wiggia - how did I miss Neil Ferguson? He's in there now.

Andy - it's about time the BBC won really.

And Katie Price, with the proviso that she is given the prize by the prison governor!

Scrobs - and what a mess she seems to be.

Gary Neville, former ball-kicker, is making a good run on the inside
