Saw this jay on the lawn the other day. We often see jays while out walking, but this is the first time I've seen one in the garden. I'm not sure what it was after. Cotoneaster berries possibly. There isn't much else there apart from a few old windfalls which the blackbirds seem to enjoy.

A Jay (maybe more than one?) is a regular in my garden now. It often can be seen burying items of food.

apparently a lack of acorns (really??) has made them a recent visitor to gardens. I normally only see them in woodland walks and while driving.
Of course, if they are at all a nuisance in gardens, their arrival will have been caused by Brexit and burning fossil fuels.
I once caught a jay having a go at our bird box, which had a nest and several chicks inside.
The jay was really going at it, and eventually, I had to 'reinforce' the opening, as it had pecked off great chunks of the wood, and was really being quite evil.
We did have one near us when we lived next to a wood years ago, and christened him Bert for some reason...

No doubt confused by all the bits of fallen skies littering the ground after Brexit.
microdave - apparently they bury acorns but there aren't any in our garden.
Sam - interesting and thanks for the link. Maybe they compete with squirrels to some extent.

James - I see an A - alarm clock.
DJ - very good, although the sky was suspiciously low the other day. Not as secure as it was.
We get Jays on a regular basis here, but we also have a pair of Buzzards who patrol the area, always know when they are around as the skies apart from them are empty, and the field at the back of us is devoid of the usual hares squirrels etc, they really do have a presence.
Wiggia - I've seen buzzards round here every now and then, but much more often while out walking. We usually hear them first.
