COVID-19: Omicron hospital figures clarified by officials after Dominic Raab gets numbers wrong in two TV interviews
On Monday, Health Secretary Sajid Javid told Sky News there were 10 individuals in hospital with the new Omicron variant. Dominic Raab then said there were 250, but later told the BBC there were nine. Officials say there are in fact still 10.

Jannie - scary stuff, although it may be one last attempt to be seen doing something just in time for the pandemic to fade away. We'll see.
The South African doctor seems to have confounded the dead-tree press and of course the BBC!
LBC have interviewed her a few times and got the real news - that Omicron isn't as bad as the others, but of course the BBC will not believe this - and it shows.
Whatever the ridiculously low numbers, we still have the problem of what "in hospital with Omicron" means. With it being a cold, I expect quite a lot of patients will eventually get it.
At a stretch, the phrase could mean that people are in a hospital where there is at least some live viral material on the premises. If things go badly, the Government could always revert to that...

Sam - yes, all numbers seem dubious apart from deaths from all causes. Vaccination numbers may be reliable but what do they tell us?
