COVID latest: Not SAGE's job to 'spread gloom or optimism', says Vallance - as data suggests Omicron milder than Delta
People with Omicron significantly less likely to develop severe symptoms, according to analysis; government will not announce any post-Christmas restrictions this week; government's chief scientific adviser says it is not SAGE's job to take policy stances.
A strange comment. To my mind, the whole pandemic debacle was a highly one-sided struggle against excessive pessimism.

The Fraser Nelson interview was a triumph. He got a modeller to admit that it's all been bent.
Who Vallance thinks he's kidding I've no idea.
Mrs Hysteria, I suppose, of 13, Cowering Avenue, Doomsville..
dearieme - it surprises me that this kind of admission doesn't leak out more readily. Surely some of them must be at least mildly ashamed of what they do. Maybe it suggests the pressures internally are intense.
A slow reversal to the perimeter wall. There to make their derrieres fast to the brickwork. Of course there will not be room for all arses to be covered.
Who will be left in the middle of the room when the music stops?
Some aged sage, well past his use-by date, but willing to carry the can in return for a peerage and a nice pension?
Or some insignificant oik, of no consequence and with no nice connections, who fed the dodgy data into the departmental Sinclair ZX Spectrum and multiplied the result by "Rand".
But you can bet there will be a lengthy and expensive/extensive inquiry and, altogether now, "Lessons Will Be Learned". One being that SAGE and the rest of the talking heads lack divessitee.
Cue the next emergency.
Russians stealing all that lovely wind that keeps the bird choppers whirling. Condemning our pensioners, at least the few that survived the covid cures, to a freezing demise. With the smell only noticed in Spring.
And A Happy New Year to you, too.
Doonhamer - ha ha - "Russians stealing all that lovely wind" but let's not mock as they are capable of making the claim.
Happy New Year to you too
