Causetank

Mr Bean actor blamed for slow electric car sales

Rowan Atkinson has been blamed for "damaging" the reputation of electric vehicles (EVs) and contributing to slow sales.

Thinktank Green Alliance gave its views on the main obstacles the government faces in its bid to phase out petrol and diesel cars before 2035, and said a comment piece by the Johnny English star published in June 2023 was damaging to the cause.

As it's a cause, presumably the thinking is over and done with. In which case, maybe the thinktank would be more accurately described as a causetank. Although that does suggest the cause is tanking, but we already knew that.

They should call it "Electric Tank". Very heavy, and coming under a lot of enemy fire.

If Mr Bean can have such a large effect I guess we should also discount the alternative effect of King Charles, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ed Sheeran and Cameron Diaz? Frankly I discount the opinion of any celebrity for anything, pro or con.

Or could Green Alliance be scratching around for a believable reason for slow sales? Given that an alternative reason could be that the perils of owning an EV are now rather more obvious nowadays?

I asked a friend - a proper petrol-head - if he would want to buy an electric car. He knows more about cars that the whole of the country...

'Absolutely not' was the answer - which is just as well as I'll have to recharge the electric bike to pop over and see him for a pint or three!

Sam - requiring very long coffee breaks for recharging.

DJ - I imagine they won't admit people don't want them for understandable reasons because it isn't supposed to be a question of personal choice. It's yet another giveaway about the creepy ideology behind it all.

Scrobs - I'm not surprised, too expensive and too many unanswered questions.
