Anxiety shared...

Stephen Fry praises King for making cancer diagnosis public

Stephen Fry has praised the King for revealing his cancer diagnosis to the public, but said he is “anxious” for him.

The 66-year-old actor and comedian, who had prostate cancer in 2018, said Charles’s “very swift modernising” of the monarchy now includes “an openness about something as personal and indelicate as a cancer”.

Not wishing to be churlish and naturally I don't know what King Charles might think, but Stephen Fry's anxiety wouldn't do much to alleviate mine.

I think I heard Fry described on the Today programme this morning as a "friend" of the King. It doesn't surprise me, somehow. As Peter Hitchens memorably said, Fry is a stupid person's idea of a clever person.

Sam - yes I assumed he's some kind of acquaintance. It doesn't surprise me either.

I think most normal citizens wouldn't wish this sort of illness on anyone, but when the luvvies jump in for a bit more 'publicity', the whole issue becomes somewhat tiresome!

Scrobs - yes, it's tiresome. Distasteful too, because we don't need their views and King Charles probably doesn't either.

Is la Fry a close enough friend to know the the nature of KCIII's cancer, and has he been given the nod to spill the beans?
Whatever, it is wrong.

Doonhamer - he may be close enough to pick up some inside gossip, or maybe he wants to create that impression. Some people are like that.
