Renewables rollout making UK electricity supply ‘more British’, analysis finds
The UK’s rollout of wind and solar power over the last decade has made its electricity supply “more British”, with significantly less reliance on imported gas, analysis has found.
Last year, just under half of Britain’s electricity supply was powered by foreign energy imports, said researchers at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), down from 65% in 2014.
In which case, 'more British' is being equated to less reliable, more expensive, technically incompetent and fundamentally bonkers.
Not very flattering for Brits, but neither is this government.

I'm not sure whether making our electricity supply "more British" means that more of our electricity is actually generated by windmills and solar panels on these shores, or whether the windmills and solar panels are now more likely to be made by Brits. There's nothing in the article to suggest the latter. Which means that we used to import coal and gas from Russia to generate electricity, whereas we now import solar panels and turbines from China to generate electricity.
The only "home grown" energy is that produced by burning British logs in the woodburner, but Ed's not keen on that.
I've been pleased recently to note that the scandalous waste of energy employed in bringing woodchips halfway round the planet to generate electricity has been mentioned outside the circle of netzero zealots.
Sam - I'm not sure what it means apart from the rather threadbare claim about needing less imported gas. Yes, British logs in the woodburner is home grown energy.
Jannie - good, it's time that nonsense became more widely known. Difficult to believe it was ever approved, but here we are. Madness.
And all that rare earth and super-expensive extraction to make one battery is never mentioned.
Anyway, by the end of the decade, Ed will be long gone, but I'll be here still!
Anon - that's one of the most immoral aspects, by 2030 Ed will be gone and others will have to tackle the mess.
