Tiring Inactivity

We'll have roofers doing their stuff over the next week or so. The scaffolders began today so I've been hanging around the house all day in case something cropped up, which it didn't. As a result, I've done nothing for the entire day and I'm more tired than if I'd been out for a good long walk.

It's odd, but inactivity can be remarkably tiring, or I find it so at any rate.

Yes, I find it mentally tiring. As if the mind realises it can take centre stage when the body isn't working, and just runs through trivia. Then I have trouble sleeping at night.

Sam - yes, it's not a very productive centre stage, just running through trivia. I didn't even get much reading done.

It's being on high mental alert for problems that does it. I prefer, as far as I am able, to do maintenance type jobs myself rather than employing tradesmen. It may be hard work, and may take longer, but it's less mentally stressful to just plod along at my own pace and do the job.

Woodsy - you are probably right, I like to do some things myself and plod along at my own pace, but roofing isn't one of them.

I don't like roofers. They can do something that i need and can't do myself, and charge accordingly. We've had our whole roof done over the time we've been in the house and it's cost a small fortune, but there's nowt worse than roof leaks

Bucko - yes it's expensive, but it looks like hard work. I was chatting to the chap doing ours and he was saying how hard it is on the back and knees now he's in his forties. He knows he'll have to move on to something else before he can retire.

Yes I suppose so. The lads who've done our roof have all been younger than me
