The situation gradually developing

The situation gradually developing was something of a dilemma to a man better acquainted with ideas than facts, with the trimming of words than with the shaping of events.

Starmer promises 'bold changes' to rules over electric cars in wake of Trump's tariffs

The prime minister confirms a 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars but announces changes to regulations to help firms transition.

Sir Keir said: "I am determined to back British brilliance.

"Now more than ever UK businesses and working people need a government that steps up, not stands aside.

"That means action, not words."

Headlines I'd like to see, no. 41156:

"Starmer promises 'bold changes' to rules over Net Zero in wake of Trump's tariffs"

He was always going to have to reverse his ban on petrol cars because the public still wanted them, and the manufacturers couldn't deliver an alternative. Trump's 10% tariff means that he needs to deploy that reverse gear now rather than later, to take some of the pressure off the automotive industry. He has no option, his hand is forced.

But still the idiot is justifying it with Churchillian rhetoric about bold action.

I prefer a government that uses plenty of words, but does no actions. Words don't hurt, but actions do.

And when Pres. Putin controls all the lithium and rare-earth sources he will have a difficult choice.
Give the UK et al. all the stuff they say they want at rock bottom prices and ruin our economies....Or
Embargo the export of such stuff and ruin our economies.
We will have fleets of rechargeable electric ships and tanks or we will have no ships and tanks.
Some supreme being up above us has a sense of humour.

DJ - or "Starmer promises 'turbocharged changes' to rules over Net Zero in wake of Trump's tariffs". Or 'real changes' or...

Sam - if only he had Churchill's wit, at least we'd have some respite from the turgid grey nonsense.

decnine - he probably has a book of them.

DAD - I prefer that too, even lies without actions would be a step forward.

Doonhamer - Nemesis has a sense of humour too, as Starmer is likely to find out.

I would very much like to acquaint Starmer with a humorous lamp post and a humorous piece of rope.

Tammly - I'd just like to see the back of him, although his replacement may be no better.
