Boxing Day Walk

We tootled off for a short walk round town this morning. Sunshine and blue sky, bound to be lots of people around we thought, lots of people with kids trying out their new bikes, scooters, roller skates and so on.

How old fashioned of us to imagine that would be the case in 2023. We saw virtually nobody and no kids at all. Of course they were all inside hunched over their new electronic gadgets. Xbox, new phone, PlayStation, VR headsets and whatever else modern kids use on their journey to round-shouldered adulthood.

The coffee shop was fairly busy though. No kids, but lots of oldies getting away from it all. On the way back I saw an old guy climbing onto his Triumph Rocket 3 motorcycle, but I don't know if Santa brought it for him. He rode off fairly carefully though.

Oh well, it's time to chop some wood with my new axe.

There are loads of people out and about here, but it's the sea-front and the sort of place people go for their traditional "Boxing Day walk". There was one bloke who was jogging along in full lycra shouting comments. Then I realised he was running along behind his daughter on her shiny Christmas bike, calling out encouragements and little warnings as she wobbled along.

Sam - yes the sea-front is different, the Sidmouth webcam shows lots of people strolling along the esplanade. I wouldn't be surprised if the riverside walk at Bakewell is fairly busy, although it isn't the same as walking by the sea.

We are at the seaside too - our morning walk was at high tide so, with no sand exposed at all, the esplanade in front of the beach huts was like IKEA on a Bank Holiday Monday; ‘March of the Penguins’ on stilts.

Lots of Christmas presents on show too - the usual tiny bikes/scooters are out in force, but there’s also a sign of the times in the shape of numerous happy souls rather closer to middle age proudly parading their new drones on the greensward.

New Axe!

Luxury!

I had to play with a new angle grinder, which I need to cut some ceramic tiles in the bathroom!

Macheath - blimey, crowds like IKEA on a Bank Holiday Monday sounds seriously crowded, especially with little bikes and scooters zooming around.

Scrobs - the axe was only a closing down offer from Wilko, but it does the job well enough. A new angle grinder though - that sounds more exciting.
