The media landscape

Prince Harry, hacking claims and the royal court case of the century

Prince Harry has been on this collision course for years - and finally he is going to be in a courtroom in person, eyeball to eyeball, in his battle against the tabloid press.

It promises to be an electrifying moment as he gives his evidence and faces questions this coming week from lawyers in London's High Court about his allegations of phone hacking.

Prince Harry has said that changing the media landscape is his "life's work" - and this gladiatorial courtroom encounter could be one of his own defining moments.

If Harry thinks he can change the media landscape he's a fool. The media landscape defines him, not the other way round. The only exits open to him are to emulate certain members of his family or quiet obscurity.

This barrister has uploaded a YouTube video where he explains why he thinks Harry will not enjoy his day in court. I'm sure he's likely to be right.

And then the effety-effer didn't turn up for the first day of the trial anyway.

dearieme - which won't go down well. In the referee's notebook already and the game hasn't even started.

Both Harry and Meghan seem to be looking for a role: something that defines them and will guarantee their place in the history books as more than a footnote. Edward and Mrs. Simpson are not enough. She seems to be going for the socially engaged self-empowerment look, whereas he apparently wants to reform society. I guess if you have been surrounded by sycophants for a while, you might think you are in with a chance.

I didn't realise he was going to have to be cross-examined. (I hadn't paid the trial much attention, to be honest.) But that's going to be delicious theatre. What struck me about him in that Netflix series is the mis-match between style and substance. He has that husky confident posh army officer tone, but doesn't say anything of importance. It's just the manner of a bloke who has been deferred and listened to because of his position rather than his abilities.

Pass the popcorn!

This could be interesting given the British legal system’s emphasis on ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’ and Prince Harry’s previous assertion that ‘there's just as much truth in what I remember and how I remember it as there is in so-called objective facts’.

Popcorn time, I think...

He should just be nourishing obscurity. :)

That's it, he doesn't seem to have any idea about the world outside his cocoon, or even that he is in a cocoon.

Macheath - popcorn time indeed. That comment about his memory being his truth has to be one of the most absurd comments he could possibly have made. He became hopelessly unreliable from that point.

James - he should indeed :)

It seems that you do not have to have your head separated from your body to 'lose your head'. Who has put him up to this? Does he hope there is money in it for him? Is he looking ahead to another Netflix film 'The Court Case'?

And in the longer run, do we care? Nope.

DJ - it's as if nobody ever reeled him in after his mother died, nobody told him how real life works. He comes across as not bright enough to pick out and associate with people who could point him in a better direction.
