UK weather - latest: Warning to prepare for 'significant second wave' of snowfall tonight - as one county could face 31 hours of snow
Latest weather updates as the Met Office issues an amber alert warning of "significant disruption" in parts of the UK and forecasts up to 40cm of snow.
Hardly any snow in our corner of Derbyshire. Some prolonged falls, but so light we couldn't really claim it was snowing and virtually none of settled. Pretty dull all in all. More forecast for tomorrow though.

We had about ten minutes worth here in the northest part of North Notts: it settled for about ten minutes. It wasn't apparent whether it was the fantasy promised for December, January or February. We can't wait for the next wagonload of bollox from the vastly taxpayer funded money pit which masquerades as the Met Office.
You'll know it's serious when they give your lack of snow a name. "Unexpected lack of snow Freda", or somesuch.
Funny how the 'experts' can forecast 'climate change', with a catastrophe happening in a hundred years time, but haven't a clue about what will happen in a few days time!
Jannie - a little more snow here overnight, but nothing to fuss over. You are right, the Met Office is a money pit. Another institution which needs cutting down to size.
Sam - it could go on and on. Unexpectedly poor day for a picnic Paula.
Scrobs - yes it is strange. Often they can't get our weather right 24hours ahead but the global climate in 30 years time - easy.
We had a little snow lying on the grass in our back lawn this am. Nothing lying on the bare earth and nothing lying on the pavements. The forecast is for rain until 2 pm tomorrow.
dearieme - we had about an inch this morning but it had already turned to slush on the roads and is already falling off the shrubs and trees. Snow forecast here until tomorrow.
