A plan to frighten public

Matt Hancock: Leaked messages suggest plan to frighten public

Matt Hancock suggested to an aide that they "frighten the pants off everyone", messages published by the Sunday Telegraph show.

It appears the former health secretary discussed when to reveal the existence of the Kent variant of Covid, to ensure people comply with lockdown rules.

In another exchange, the head of the Civil Service, Simon Case, suggested the "fear/guilt factor" was vital to the government's messaging.

I don't recall the BBC pointing out how obvious it all was at the time, how the government was quite clearly aiming to "frighten the pants off everyone". Via the media of course, including the BBC.  Plus the associated finger-pointing - that was intentional too.

It's almost as if the BBC wants us to think it didn't know this was the approach. Yet it was so obvious at the time, that anyone with a modicum of insight knew what the game was. Even the BBC has that modicum of insight.

No mention of the involvement of the 'nudge' unit, which was behind so much of this scare mongering.

I've often said that the BBC isn't political - but it does support the 'Establishment'.

The 'Establishment' is currently in thrall to a great deal of lefty wishful thinking - "if only the people would do what they are told" - so the BBC failing to question the plan to frighten the public is an expected reaction.

I'm in favour of closing the BBC because I think the rot has gone too far.

Why does it always take people so long to wake up?

This is a significant point - far more so than the adultery and celebrity nonsense. Civil servants were colluding enthusiastically. Sometimes it seems like so many nails have been driven into this particular coffin that there's no wood left.

The great merit of this leak is that it gives us the names of the otherwise rather anonymous civil servants who should accompany their masters to the gallows.

Mind you we'll have to find a way of speeding up the English courts if they are to cope with the flow of Covid Criminals.

Wiggia - good point. If Hancock had been on the ball he could have mentioned it in lots of texts just in case.

DJ - I'm in favour of closing the BBC too, it constantly undermines the interests of its own audience while still clinging onto the TV tax.

James - I think it has to be official in some way. The waking up has to be done by others.

Sam - yes they were colluding enthusiastically, as they now do over a range of issues.

dearieme - I'm in favour of tumbrils so we can see them.

Did Matt test out his cunning plan (frighten the pants off) on his aide?
Thus facilitating his extra-connubial Ugandan discussions with Ms. Gina Co-dangle-low.
He truly is a Slithy Tove.
But he still serves a purpose as a smug scape goat. It was him. Totally him. He did it all.

Doonhamer - "frighten the pants off" is a bit of a Freudian giveaway isn't it?. He also seems to have wandered into the fall guy role without anyone needing to push him.
