BBC speaking frankly with Gary Lineker over tweet comparing UK asylum policy to 1930s Germany
The BBC says it is having a "frank conversation" with Gary Lineker after the Match of the Day host tweeted critically about the government's asylum policy.
The BBC has impartiality guidelines and the corporation said Lineker was being "spoken to" about his responsibilities.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she was "disappointed" by the comments.
It is easy to assume that this is just another example of the guy making a fool of himself, but it does raise a question about silly political perspectives. He is a professional communicator, so there may be a significant audience for this kind of ludicrous exaggeration. Sounds bizarre, but his world probably is bizarre and much larger than we might suppose.
Or he is a fool and that's it.

Please, please, let the Jews pile on. Rabbis solemnly intoning that the holocaust is not to be used to make cheap political points, relatives of those who died in the camps in tears because of his hurtful words, business leaders disassociating themselves from him.
I doubt if it will happen, though.
"We'd be grateful if you would tone it down a bit, Gary - it's not as if this is the first time, mate. What would happen if the whole BBC took a partisan viewpoint on this type of thing?"
"But boss, the whole BBC does take a partisan line on this type of thing..."
"Well, yes, Gary, you've got a point there...but could you just tone it down a bit as a personal favour?..."
Good last thought.
There has been a recent case of HMG behaving rather like a bunch of Nazis but the twerp has misidentified it. Is there any record of his speaking up against lockdowns, school closures, and compulsory jabs?
The Spouse spotted this on the news and immediately suggested it appeared to be some kind of mid-life crisis/ guilt trip.
I wonder if we’ll be seeing references to ‘mental health’ in the near future.
Sam - I doubt if it will happen too. A pity though. I'm not sure why they bother with Gary. He's very expensive, embarrassing and uncharismatic. It's crazy but very BBC.
James - I think that's it, he's a fool.
dearieme - I haven't come across him speaking up against anything which might adversely affect football supporters.
Macheath - could be that, or he may have his eye on a political career.
I suspect his world is indeed bizarre, and probably a lot smaller than he imagines.
Peter - I have the impression that many football fans don't think much of him and it may be these people who matter rather than the politics. He is very expensive and no longer young, so the BBC may think it can do better and sooner or later will have to replace him anyway.
