I find myself irritated by the activists political bent towards the total and totalitarian solution of Net Zero or even Zero. Sit me down with a nice cup of tea and biscuits and we can discuss whether the world would be better for all the inhabitants with fewer people. There's a balance to be struck between treading on the earth lightly and covering it more deeply with people and their works. A balance between natural population shrinkage and active population control.
Most people resist interference in their private lives so any discussion of gentle adjustment is lost in the heated arguments on both sides. There appears to be little room and no patience for the middle way.
Sam - Miliband's background says he's a dissembling ideological maniac, but his behaviour now says he's an ignorant failing bungler. I think we should settle on what we see - his behaviour.
DJ - activists seem to be powerfully influenced by "I want it now". Yet demographic trends suggests that whatever they think is wrong with current levels of consumption is likely to correct itself over the coming decades.
This will create it's own problems, but we aren't addressing those apart from an immigration policy which won't work and green fanaticism which won't work either.

So. Miliband. An ignorant failing bungler, or a dissembling ideological maniac?
