"I can get to to societal and economic collapse quicker than the other guy!"

In my opinion Sunak and Starmer (sounds like an End of the Pier act) are not leaders but sheep dogs who try chivvy their chums along the road of consensus. That is part of the political skill set after all.

Unfortunately 'the consensus' is not automatically correct. But people who stand against it (Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and even Jeremy Corbyn) are soon worn down and cast aside. The consensus sits across politics and political parties (and many other institutions) like a 600lb gorilla.

It will take a significant reappraisal to undo the 'consensus' of the last few decades.

I’ve argued before that Sir IKEA was a nightwatchman put in to manage Labour until the next true Leader stepped forward. That he has lasted this long is surprising until you consider the calibre of the ‘Leaders in Waiting’.

Funnily enough you could also argue that Sunak has been put in place as the nightwatchman for the Conservatives…

Sam - and still divert the blame to the other guy.

DJ - Starmer may know he was a nightwatchman so he's getting rid of natural agitators and embarrassments to raise his status. Maybe Sunak knows too but intends to move on anyway.

James - thanks, unfortunately voters want to stay in the loop.
