What numpties. As in chumps, as in clots, as in mutton-headed.
(When I was young I never heard "numpty" used except by Glaswegians. It seems to have spread. There's another Glaswegian expression that's spread in my lifetime but I can't call it to mind. Age, eh?)
dearieme - there are so many equivalents that I can't easily remember which are the words I first came across. "Numpty" was more recent, I know that. Early ones are "clot", "bonehead" and "closet".
Nyaff? Bawbag? Heid-the-ba? Bampot? Tampon?
As a southener,I've never heard of closet. What about Walley?
Doonhamer - I only know the last two, but I'm never sure that "tampon" quite fits so to speak.
