Gary Neville: Ex-England footballer joins Labour Party

Former England footballer Gary Neville has joined the Labour Party and is not ruling out a venture into politics.

The ex-Manchester United captain was publicly welcomed to the party by shadow cabinet ministers Lucy Powell and Anneliese Dodds.

Neville told the BBC's Political Thinking podcast he had joined Labour "in the last few days".

When asked if he would run for public office, the 46-year-old said: "I'm not saying never."

Maybe it isn't only goal scorers who take the risks - heading the ball out of defence could be just as damaging.

The poor sod probably thinks that the left wing and the right wing actually cooperate, like they do in football.

When did he immigrate?
Or should it be English ex-footballer?

I suppose those of us who don't give a toss about football, will give an even smaller toss about an unknown nobody yelping at something or other...

He's rich enough to support Labour, I suppose. And since ManU supporters live mainly in and around London (*) I imagine he'll seek a London seat.

* I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Sam - and the wealthy people he sees are probably left wing anyway.

Doonhamer - I've noticed before that the BBC seems to dislike the word 'English'.

Scrobs - yes, that is likely to be all he can hope for.

dearieme - I read somewhere that most Man U supporters live abroad, but I read that on the internet too.
