Rosie Duffield: MP considers leaving Labour over 'obsessive harassment'
An MP has said she is considering her future in the Labour Party after "obsessive harassment" from current and former party members.
Canterbury MP Rosie Duffield claimed in a series of tweets that "personal, libellous, nasty" things had been published about her.
"I have been subjected to this rubbish for years," she said, adding that the Labour Party had offered no help.
Extremely unpleasant I imagine, although I can't easily imagine it because too often there is something disturbingly malign about political obsessives, something dark, even wicked. We know about useful idiots, but useful obsessives are not necessarily idiots. Far too many unworthy causes are partly supported by obsessives.
The Labour party should deal with this one and virtually everyone must know it. It diminishes both Starmer and the entire party. Not that it takes much doing, but there is a particularly unpleasant, particularly totalitarian stink around what is happening to Rosie Duffield. Something we should all be concerned about.

But isn't this what Labour's socialism is all about? Hatred, greed, complaining, and jealousy of others abounds, far more, it seems, than other mainstream political parties. Whether our Rosie has given it out in the past and it has come to bite her on the bum, I have no idea and, to be honest, I don't care. I have only responded to this blog because my Status Quo CD has just ended. "Down, down," Rosie, " Deeper and down" .
Duffield's main claim to fame is her embarrassing weepy account in Parliament of how a previous fiancé abused her. Speaker Bercow and lots of elderly chaps in suits were falling over themselves to partake of the drama, nodding sympathetically and looking as if they would kill for a photo of them handing her a crisp white handkerchief. I'm sure there are a lot of dodgy blokes around, but they pick on people like her for a reason.

Duffield is opposed to new grammar schools, and Eleven-plus exams. She was criticised for this stance after it emerged that both her children had gone to grammar schools.

But the Labour Party probably don't want to deal with it. The Labour Party's is fuelled by activism. Originally the plight of the working man, then unilateral disarmament, then feminism, then the Gays, then Palestine (bonus for criticising the Jews), now support for Transpeople. Every cause gets to be assessed for the use that can be made of it - and MPs need to keep up with the latest enthusiasm or be prepared to make a principled stand. Or resign.
Penseivat - yes it is what Labour's socialism is all about and with a bit of luck voters will realise it and drift away. Not that I'd put money on it.
Sam - I'm sure they do pick on her for a reason, but unless there are other issues she does seem to be showing some backbone in an issue where Starmer won't. Could be a move against Starmer of course, but the remedy is easy enough.
dearieme - she seems to be a stopped clock Labour type. Right on this issue in my view.
DJ - I think Starmer sees it as a party discipline issue rather than something the Labour party wants to be identified with in a high profile way. They certainly have moved away from working people towards minority grievance politics, but this issue may make it too obvious even to traditional Labour voters. I hope so.
