"Scientists" want to build humongous freezer

Climate change: Scientists call for 'refreezing' of the Arctic after several 'never before' events

CCAG researchers call for urgent research on refreezing the Arctic, and say many other solutions already exist.

The Arctic is now experiencing several "never before" events, with dramatic, human impacts on the planet's ecosystem, according to a new report...

The authors say we must explore ways of restoring damaged climate systems, including refreezing the Arctic, though no further detail was provided.

No further detail was provided? The wimps - ask Electrolux what they think of the idea.

"No further detail was provided?"

Details like where the electricity to power the giant freezers is going to come from...

It's all very well restoring damaged climate systems (assuming it can even been done) but to what state? Climate systems are dynamic and interact with many other processes. Should we 'go back' 100 years? 1,000 years? To when the continents were in an earlier arrangement and 'the poles' were equatorial?

We could, I suppose, cover the Artic sea with polystyrene panels to reflect more sunlight back into space, but what if this caused the Amazon basin to dry up? Or the creation of vast amounts of polystyrene could produce pollution elsewhere...

There are worthy goals and there are pipedreams.

microdave - if they did that, the do nothing option could seem enormously attractive. Which of course it is anyway.

DJ - if we had a choice, we should probably opt for a little more warming and a significantly higher concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide to promote plant growth. Even then, the unknown risks of meddling should rule out the attempt.
