Drivel will do for the proles

'COVID is a warning that much worse lies in store': Alarm raised ahead of biggest climate report since 2013

Following a spate of deadly wildfires, floods and famine, IPCC researchers begin finalising the most comprehensive assessment of global warming of its kind since 2013...

"While the climate crisis, together with biodiversity loss and pollution, has indeed been under way for decades, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought this triple planetary crisis into sharp focus," Joyce Msuya, assistant secretary general of the United Nations and deputy executive director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) said today.

"The pandemic is a warning from the planet that much worse lies in store unless we change our ways."

COVID-19 is a warning from the planet eh? Not a warning about meddling with viruses in China presumably. Definitely not that.

We seem to have reached a stage where official propaganda doesn't even have to mean anything. As always, drivel will do for the proles.

Not just any drivel, United Nations drivel.

Let me see. Some distant elite deputy executive director of the UN Environment Programme reckons we should do more global environmental stuff. Who would dine well off that?

Plus if decreasing biodiversity and virus epidemics substantially reduce the world population then climate change becomes less pressing - assuming there is a significant anthropogenic component to climate change.

They're going to have to work hard to top this doomcasting. Perhaps 'Aliens attacking Earth through epidemics, reducing biodiversity and climate change'?

The Second Law of Scrobs applies here... As soon as the un-magic words 'climate change' and 'diversity' are mentioned, think the opposite to the drivel you quite rightly describe.

We didn't get to our modern state by screaming inanities, we actually worked to get here, not spout negative dross at everyone else's efforts.

BTW, The First Law of Scrobs applies to the awful BBC - believe the opposite!

@ Scrobs

BTW, The First Law of Scrobs applies to the awful BBC - believe the opposite!

True enough, but there is a more subtle form where the BBC omits reporting news that is not consistent with their world view, or reports official advice without analysis. Such as the knife attack at Speaker's Corner, quoting the Police advice "I would ask people not to speculate on the motive for the attack until we have established the full facts."

You're absolutely right, DJ! The BBC are expert in their opinions, not facts, with which they distort and confuse their tax-paying public. It's the stuff they don't report and which is just as important, being omitted which really p****s me off!

DJ and Scrobs - yes, lying by omission seems to be the favoured approach of the BBC. It allows them to lie without lying, to broadcast crimes, demonstrations and predictions of doom and disaster from a narrow and partial standpoint. That standpoint can always be made to sound responsible afterwards because it wasn't a direct lie.

Even if it was a lie, it originally came from someone outside the BBC and later they may claim to have reported it in good faith.

Remember that environmentalism is a new religion and is accompanied by superstition as it has always been. Recall the people who said the York Minster fire in 1984 was 'God's retribution for the sin of homosexuality and aids.'
There are always those amongst us who think this way about the world as a psychological trait.

Tammly - yes, most orthodox environmental comments seem to be just that, shallow affirmations of orthodoxy. "I'm a good person, I say the right things."
