A variation of Kuhn's "Structure of Scientific Revolutions". It might be that science as we know it has had its day. An odd thought, because many people assumed that it was somehow impervious to other social forces, and would always manage to win out. But I'm not so sure. I can't hear the term "settled science" without a slight feeling of depression and chill.
Sam - yes, science as we know it probably has had its day. Commercially useful science could continue, but as a dispassionate knowledge culture it appears to be on the way out.
