5G in China

An interesting look at 5G in China. I don't think we'll be seeing it in the near future, not here in our little corner of Derbyshire.

I was a late adopter of cellphones, saying I just didn't need one. The same with smartphones. And then with my mobile hub thingie. Whenever I upgraded, part of me knew that I was right all along; that the new tech was just not worth the money and the bother.

I think I might actually have reached the limit, now, though.

@Sam Vega: pigeons.

Sam - I've yet to buy a smartphone but I suppose I'll have one eventually. I'm not convinced but some trends can become inconvenient to resist.

Sackers - that's an idea. A pigeon could probably deliver huge amounts of information via an embedded chip.

Pigeons, really? Imagine the horrible mess when large numbers of spam messages start to arrive.

Every venue, restaurant, cafe I've been to recently want you to scan some pixelated square code 'with your smartphone'. The (generally young) doorkeepers express surprise if you say you cannot, due to having no phone, or an older model.

I know it's bad behaviour, but I always say my phone's too old (it isn't)! So they write down a number I give them, which sometimes may have errors in it...

Pigeons only fly to their homes, not where you want them to go.

Sackers and Woodsy - a new meaning for pigeon and chips perhaps.

Ed - my phone is too old but sooner or later I'll probably upgrade it.
