Prime Minister launches Global Clean Power Alliance as UK leads the global energy transition
The alliance of countries will work together and share expertise with the goal of meeting the COP28 commitments to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency...
Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, said:
The UK is already leading the way in the clean power transition – we’ve phased out coal power, lifted the ban on onshore wind and launched GB Energy – but we will not stop there...
Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, said:
Speeding up the global clean energy transition is in Britain’s national interest – it is the route to the jobs of the future, energy security and tackling the climate crisis...
Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, said:
The climate crisis is the greatest challenge the world faces and tackling it is essential for Britain’s national security, energy security and economic growth.
A fine idea, we'll begin by sharing the expertise of Keir Starmer, Ed Miliband and David Lammy. Other countries may object, but we should be extremely generous with their time and expertise on this one. After all, Christmas is coming.

Was wondering about your comment, then saw the "sarcasm" tag.

We'll also set up a bespoke range of new supranational agencies, consortia, and partnerships that are absolutely guaranteed to be self-recycling and completely sustainable, meeting our and other countries' needs for international cooperation into this century and beyond..."
For some strange reason I thought of Lemmings. It is apparently a myth that they follow others over the cliff, but still...
Anon - unfortunate in some ways, but it isn't easy to say anything without the sarcasm.
Sam - yes, lots of comfortable green jobs with regular travel to nice places with reliable electricity.
DJ - yes, it doesn't matter if it is a myth, it still works well as a very well understood analogy.
Is anyone else here old enough to remember Mrs Dale's Diary? "I'm worried about Kier."
dearieme - I remember that there was a wireless programme called Mrs Dale's Diary but never listened to it. Starmer would sound much more like the son of a toolmaker as Jim Starmer.
I remember it. I recall Mrs Dale saying "I've been a doctor's wife for forty years". Quite unimaginable when you're six. Can also hum the signature tune too!
Tammly - I couldn't hum the signature tune, but I bet it's one of those cases where if I heard it I'd go "oh yes, I remember."
Leading the way in clean power seems to mean getting rid of existing and efficient power, and replacing it with talk about something that might pick up the slack just as soon as the latest crop of unicorns is ready
Bucko - that's it, replace what works with what doesn't.
