Climate fund proposal dismays developing nations - as COP29 presidency branded 'one of the worst'
Ali Mohamed, speaking on behalf of more than 50 African nations, says a proposed $250bn target is "totally inadequate" and will lead to "unacceptable loss of life in Africa and around the world, and imperils the future of our world".
An eleventh hour proposal from a UN climate summit to channel $250bn to developing nations has fallen far short of the $1.3trn they need to cope with climate change.
Well that is good news. $0 would have been better, but any good news is welcome in the climate game. As the headline suggests, there is more good news in the same article, so well done Azerbaijan -
Mohamed Adow, who runs thinktank Power Shift Africa, said: "This COP presidency is one of the worst in recent memory, overseeing one of the most poorly led and chaotic COP meetings ever.

These "African nations" need to be careful lest the USA declares that they are all American allies and they end up in the state Ukraine is in.
dearieme - especially if they fall out with China.
"Ali Mohamed, speaking on behalf of more than 50 African nations..."
I wonder how many people actually voted for him, and what sort of a mandate he has.
Sam - he seems to be a Kenyan MP, but in this role a government appointee. I imagine his mandate is to get what he can from those daft enough to give it.
Yes, "well done Azerbaijan" but what a state of affairs on climate ... Moribund for example.
Anon - yes, we still have Ed Moribund's malign interference to contend with.
