E-bike 'explodes outside Buckingham Palace'

An e-biked has seemingly exploded outside Buckingham Palace.

Photos and videos on social media show what appears to be the frame of a bike in flames on Saturday afternoon.

This e-motorbike provides a shockingly fun and functional commuting experience

Himiway, a prominent player in the electric mobility sector, made a big splash at CES 2024 with its new range of commuting machines, particularly the C5 e-motorbike. And finally, the bike is available to buy!

Ah, how to put a commuter in the hot seat!

Tammly - ha ha, that's the hot topic of e-bikes.

Some of us remember another electric "vehicle" called the C5...

Dave - I remember the C5 too. As soon as it came out it was obviously too small, I don't know why Sinclair thought it was worth making.

Ahem...

Scroll down to the bottom for a few pics! (the post was a 'story' no less...)!

Senora O'Blene and I bought these motors for our bikes back then! They were Sinclair Zeta motors, rather on the lines of the French front bike-wheel motor, which operated by running directly on the tyre! They were fitted sith the old Cadmium rechargeable batteries.

They did actually work, but were limited in their power, and to celebrate their arrival, we set off to a pub a few miles away! It didn't occur to me that the mile-long hill upwards would be a problem, until we were about fifty yards up, and already exhausted! (My first pint didn't even touch the sides of my throat)!

However, we had a bit of fun on level roads, and when we'd eventually given up riding to walk JRT instead, these motors languished in the shed, until I fulfilled a dream of fitting them both on my bike!

It did go quite well, but made a hell of a racket, and anyway, I needed the exercise, so again, they were stuck back under the bench until I chucked them - sadly - a few years ago...

Scrobs - with hindsight after the C5 came out, I thought Sinclair could have made an electric bike instead, something more integrated than the Zeta motor idea. We see loads of electric bikes on the Derbyshire trails now.

"Seemingly exploded". Eh? It did or it did not. Why do cagey? In case they get sued?
It did not explode. It "transed" itself into greater entropic state.

And I might be riding one of them if the miserable weather we've had so far this year ever improves! With my wonky hip I'm not going to be doing too much pedalling. I saw a cycle hire centre at the "Middleton Top" engine house last year, and a return visit could be on the cards...

Doonhamer - anyone sitting on it could have experienced a "greater entropic state" too.

Dave - the cycle hire centre at Hassop Station on the Monsal Trail is popular too and there is a large cafe.

Years ago I spent a bit converting my pushbike to an electric bike. "Do you want the battery container on the handlebars or on the rack behind you, sir?" asked the salesman.

"Oh the handlebars, please, then if it starts smoking I'll see it immediately."

I claim foresight!

I'll take that as a (not so subtle) hint!

dearieme - good thinking, maybe a patent is still possible.

Dave - Middleton Top is fine, but much more limited facilities. Less crowded at weekends perhaps, because Hassop can get very busy.
