Yet another critical decade

Prince of Wales: Now is critical decade to tackle climate change

Now is the “critical decade” to try and set the planet on a “healthier” path to deal with the climate crisis, the Prince of Wales has warned.

William was speaking in central London as he joined supporters of the Earthshot Prize Launchpad, a new platform aimed at helping develop and make potential climate change solutions a reality.

Good to see the Prince of Wales keeping up with what promises to become a family tradition of wild doom-mongering.

However, his team ought to plan ahead in case we see significant global cooling at some point. In which case, he may need a way to skip smoothly from the old doom to a new one.

What is wrong with you? We slipped smoothly from the old scare to the new scare before. We may soon slip from Tory to Labour government and no one will notice that either.

Doom pontificating only works if the last doom that didn't happen isn't remembered.

See Wikipedia for a "List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events". Mostly religious in nature but the later ones are more environmental. But in most cases the prediction was uttered by someone totally certain that they were right. And they were not.

Tammly - you are right, cold to hot then back again and it will still be our fault.

DJ - that may turn out to be the problem with this one, the propaganda has been too intense to forget. If we see a cooling trend it will probably have to be the same cause.

With all the wild rumours regarding his family flying around he was probably advised to carry on and act normal. "Here's one of your Dad's old speeches. We've changed the dates, but other than that the public will find a reassuring continuity about it."

Sam - yes, his Dad's speeches will probably be available for a bit of copy and paste by a minion.

This is the decade? This one? I thought it was the last one, or the one before that. Or maybe even the next one. Oh well...

Bucko - I'm not sure which it is, but by now many younger people must have been through doom decades for their entire lives.
