So much to relearn
I’m nearly three weeks into growing a beard. It looks okay so far, at least Mrs H thinks so. It will be the third time I’ve been a been a beardie. I shaved off my last beard a few decades ago when it began to show streaks of grey.
So far it looks as if it will be all grey so that’s an improvement I suppose. Next I’ll have to remember how to keep it trimmed. I think I always used scissors in the past, but I can’t remember how I tidied it up round the edges.
So much to relearn.

My wife bought me a beard trimmer which means that's she's effectively in charge of the beaver - which is fair enough, she's the one who has to look at it.
The streaks of grey thing can be an issue - the last one I grew, I looked like a badger. All grey is better, but I sincerely hope you don't look like Corbyn.
dearieme - Mrs H trims my hair, but in the past I always trimmed my beard. I have a hair trimmer which might do so I'll try that first.
Sam - the badger look is what persuaded me to shave off my last beard. I don't think I'll look like Corbyn, but if so the beard will have to go.
A few years ago I grew in a beard for a 'Seventies' party. It came in stark white and looked like 'Grandad' in Only Fools and Horses. I noticed other people reacted more kindly to me in the street. Who knew?
DJ - I've noticed a few similar changes as I've turned into an oldie. For example, if I buy a single cake at a coffee shop because Mrs H doesn't want one, the person behind the counter sometimes asks if I want two forks with it. Maybe the coffee will be brought to the table once my beard grows.
I have had a beard for the last 65 years. As a young man I always hated shaving and a bout of flu which resulted in a weeks bed rest started the growth.It started a deep auburn colour but is now plain white as is the rest of what hair I have left.
What used to amuse me, was seeing the look of amazement and fascination on the faces of very young children who had never seen a bearded man before, a lot of them wanting to touch it to see if it was real.
I wonder how much time and money I have saved over the years in not having to scrape my face every day.
John - you must have saved a great deal of time over 65 years. I was never a shaving enthusiast, it has always felt like a chore to be done as quickly as possible which has also left me with quite a few nicks over the years.
Mine used to go ginger around the chin dimple. Now it goes greay. The wife won't let me grow one though, so it doesn't matter
Bucko - yes, wifely approval matters with beards. Mrs H quite likes mine so it stays for now at least.
