Sir Keir Starmer should be very, very worried after Galloway win
When Labour holds its inquest into the debacle of this by-election, it will reflect on how what should have been a routine by-election win in a relatively safe seat turned into Sir Keir's worst nightmare - a win for George Galloway...
If the Labour leader thinks he gets a hard time now from the SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn and the Corbynite Labour left over the Israel-Hamas ceasefire row, wait until the ferocious Galloway starts tearing into him in the Commons chamber...
Top of the agenda for the Labour inquest will be to identify which idiot decided to hold the by-election in such an unseemly rush after the death of veteran MP and party stalwart Sir Tony Lloyd.
We seem to be awash with the unseemly anyway, a little more won't make much difference. Only one by-election of course, but possibly a sign of the turmoil to come where sound bites, bitter prejudice and emotional manipulation are all we have left of the political theatre. It's a pity about the Monster Raving Loony result though.
Oh well, the trend continues.

Labour might be able to kid themselves that it was down to an odd set of circumstances. But the Labour 'machine' owned Rochdale... until it didn't.
How many more 'odd circumstances' are there waiting to be realised in the next General Election?
DJ - even Labour may now begin to realise how many of those 'odd circumstances' might be in the pipeline. There isn't much time for them to do anything about it either.
One reason for thinking Toni Blair dim was his policy of making voter cheating easier in General Elections, obviously on the racist motivation that it would help Labour because it was mainly Pakistanis/Moslems who would cheat more. (Why did nobody object to his racism at the time?)
It was dim because he combined it with a policy of starting unnecessary wars against Moslem countries.
I suppose you might guess that the Jewish inclination to Left Wing politics has helped Labour over the years, including financially. Now what?
I bet plans are already underway for the IPGB (Islamic Party of Great Britain) being launched. There are loads of constituencies where it would easily win. Labour has been feeding the crocodile the choicest tit-bits for years, but this time it has taken off Starmer's hand.
Still, the "Workers Party of Britain" sounds nice. I hope they can do something for the poor mill-girls of Rochdale. Some of them have only got one set of clogs and a shawl.
dearieme - I've never understood why nobody objected to Blair's postal vote racism at the time, because it was obvious. Political and media folk must have seen it for what it was, but as far as I remember nothing much was said.
The Jewish inclination to Left Wing politics is bound to change in some way now. Maybe a shift towards the Lib Dems? Early days but it looks bad for Starmer.

Sam - yes, the IPGB or something similar may exist is some nascent form and will certainly attract funding.
The "Workers Party of Britain" sounds antique these days, although it does suggest that George's world is firmly rooted in the past so Corbyn supporters may be attracted to it now it has an MP.
I look forward to the "Workers Party of Britain" reducing the unemployment figures in Rochdale. Perhaps child trafficking will be included in those figures.
Also, won't Galloway have to proclaim an oath of loyalty to the King before he can take his seat?
